Those behind a new campaign involving billboards in Chicago and elsewhere say the goal is to inform…and inspire residents.
“The billboards are part of a greater campaign that we have launched as the Mijente Support Committee to really be able to articulate the cost of ICE.”
20th Ward Alderperson Jessie Fuentes says that includes a billboard that reads “your tax dollars wasted…ICE cruelty is costing you 28 billion dollars.”
“When we’re watching things like Medicaid get slashed in half, housing get slashed in half, groceries continue to go up. What we’re saying is that our tax dollars should be spent on ensuring that our lives can be affordable here in our city and across the country.”
Fuentes says part of the goal is to remind Chicagoans and others that ICE has not gone away…and to keep that in mind at the polls.
“These are the things that constituents need to know so that they can hold their congressional representatives accountable. This is $172 million that can help in our grocery costs, $120 million that can go towards Medicaid.”
