(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Butterflies will play a major role in the reopening of the Petty Notebaert Nature Museum on Thursday.
The Lincoln Park-based attraction was closed to visitors for 15 months because of the pandemic.
The museum will reopen on a reduced “summer hours” schedule, Thursdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the idea of having a full weekly schedule in early September, officials said.
To help usher in the museum’s return, officials on Wednesday held a ceremonial butterfly release in its signature Butterfly Haven. Visitors can observe hundreds of butterflies in the habitat.
Masks are required for everyone who visits the museum. Masks will be provided to anyone who's forgotten theirs.
The Notebaert Nature Museum will also remain open to the public, virtually, online and continue to provide remote learning experiences.
