CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The city has announced that a $60 million food production facility is being built in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.
Harvest Food Group is moving from Archer Heights to eight acres of vacant industrial land on 46th Street between Wolcott and Damen.
It’s acquiring the land for a dollar and the agreement with the city includes public open green space, environmental remediation and other neighborhood improvements.
Harvest provides manufacturing, packaging and distribution services to a variety of food industry companies. It currently has about 200 employees.
It will be expanding with the new 220,000-square foot facility and will be adding 50 jobs.
The site has been vacant for about 15 years.
