(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A legal group is expressing concerns about a possible attempt to redraw the lines for Illinois’ Supreme Court districts.

You’ve been hearing a lot of talk and news stories about legislative redistricting in Illinois — a partisan struggle every decade.

Now, there’s talk Democrats who control state government may be interested in changing the high court boundaries, something that hasn’t happened in half a century, says John Pastuovic, President of the Illinois Civic Justice League.

Much of this has to do with Democratic Justice Thomas Kilbride, who fell short of his judicial retention election last year. Pastuovic said that gives Republicans a chance to take that seat and win a majority on the court, something that also hasn’t happened in a half century.

It's clear Democrats would like to create a new Democratic district so that they can maintain their 4-3 majority on the high court.

The Civic Justice League is putting out information it says could help decide how any changes could or should be done. Regardless, you can expect Democrats and Republicans to quarrel over it.
