(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Another “probable” case of monkeypox has been detected in Chicago.

This would be the second case, if confirmed, according to the Department of Public Health. The case is believed to be someone who had close contact with the first person who was confirmed to be positive.

The initial case was a man who had traveled to Europe.

"We've seen more of these cases in gay, bisexual, and men who have sex with men, but to be clear we have also seen cases in others, so it is not just in that population," said Dr. Alison Arwady, Commissioner of Chicago's Department of Public Health.

She also clarified some misconceptions about the virus.

"It does not come from monkey. That's just initially what it was detected in and it's a virus that's not related to the COVID virus," she said. "It's in a completely different family."

Arwady said the risk to the public is very low.
