(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Mayor Brandon Johnson has asked for a special meeting next Wednesday to consider confirmation of Counterterrorism Chief Larry Snelling as Chicago's next police superintendent.
Snelling's appointment had been on hold so that he could attend public meetings conducted by the new Community Commission on Public Safety and Accountability.
But with a City Council committee hearing on Snelling scheduled for Friday, Johnson wants his formal confirmation at next week's special meeting.
It will be a busy month for council members. Another, regular council meeting is scheduled the following Wednesday. And there could be a budget speech in October, as well.
Snelling's confirmation is expected to be fairly smooth, but there may be some questions about his past record on the streets.
