Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg is adding new stores, restaurants, and entertainment this spring, coming as many malls across the country and in the Chicago area continue to face declines and closures.
Simon, which operates Woodfield Mall, says it is expanding the property with eight new additions, including international fashion brand Mango, activewear retailers Vuori and FP Movement, and Italian lingerie brand Intimissimi. Several of the brands are opening their first suburban Chicago locations at the mall.
The expansion also includes new dining and entertainment. Chubby Cattle is opening with an all-you-can-eat Wagyu dining experience, while two interactive attractions, Bam Kazam and The Great Big Game Show, will bring escape room-style challenges and TV-style competitions to the property.
Mall officials say the additions are aimed at keeping Woodfield competitive by blending traditional retail with new experiences as the industry continues to evolve.
In recent years, the Chicago area has seen several longtime shopping centers shut down, including Stratford Square Mall in Bloomingdale, which closed last year after opening in 1981, and Spring Hill Mall in West Dundee, which also recently closed and is slated for demolition. The closures reflect broader challenges facing traditional malls, including shifting retail habits and the rise of online shopping.
