(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Two Cook County men are being held without bond in DuPage County on charges they robbed an elderly woman of her purse earlier this month at a shopping center.
Sincere Harrington, 19, of Chicago and 18-year-old Jarquez Jones of Maywood are accused of robbing the woman’s purse at gunpoint Dec. 5 at a Walmart in Villa Park before leading police on a high-speed chase into Chicago.
Jones was found in a garbage bin and Harrington was taken into custody following a brief foot pursuit, authorities said in a news release. Officers found two guns near the suspects’ vehicle; one firearm had been altered to fire as an automatic weapon, officials said.
A judge last week denied bail to Jones, and this week Harrington was ordered held without bond. Both are charged with one count of armed robbery and one count of aggravated fleeing and eluding.
Harrington is on probation for a weapons offense in Cook County, officials said.
“This case is a shining example that law enforcement will do all we can to bring alleged offenders of violent crimes to justice,” Villa Park Police Chief Michael Rivas said. “We are professional and objective; but we can’t help to have the utmost empathy for the victim who could be anyone’s elderly mother or grandmother."
Both men are scheduled to appear in court again later this month.
