(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Palos Park police officer has been hailed as a hero after saving a man's life — thousands of miles from home — earlier this month.
It happened when officer Ryan Franczak was on vacation in Arizona.
The police department said he was water tubing on the Gila and Salt River when he saw a man fall off his tube and into the river.
When the man didn't resurface, Franczak jumped in with another tuber to find him. After locating the man, Franczak pulled up from the water to the shoreline.
He's been praised by the Palos Park mayor and Palos Park Police Commissioner Dan Polk.
