Norridge police officer receives medal for helping deliver baby

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The village of Norridge has a new resident and its police department helped bring him into the world. .

Norridge police said that last Wednesday they received a report of a woman having trouble with her pregnancy in the 4200 block of Odell.

The “trouble” was that the woman was in the bathroom giving birth.

Officer Melanie Pina helped hold the baby boy’s head while the mom pushed.

Two other officers took care of the three other children in the house.

The newborn baby, named Greg, is doing fine.

The officers later dropped off gifts and the mother gave  Pina a St. Michael medal, which represents the patron saint of police officers.
