A Wrigleyville bar will be able to keep its doors open through at least the end of February, after convincing people to "sponsor" its bartenders.

When the Nisei Lounge found out it wasn't getting a state grant, the business offered to let people pay $100 to sponsor a bartender's shift.

Pat Odon, whose title is director of beer and baseball operations at Nisei, says he was inspired by listening to baseball broadcasts, which uses a sponsorship model.

Odon says the sponsorships have been so popular, the bar can stay open until at least the end of February when he hopes to secure more COVID relief.

He also says Nisei will be able to hire bartenders from other establishments that have closed because of the pandemic.
