CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Reilly’s Daughter, a South Side Irish pub known as a hotspot for singles, has invited its couples back for a celebration of love.
The Oak Lawn tavern is hosting a couples’ reunion on Aug. 6 for all of the couples that found love at their pub over the years. Co-owner Brendan O’Brien said the numbers are in the thousands.
“I have 14 aunts and uncles, and half of them met here,” O’Brien said. “My parents met here when my father first opened this place in 1976. I mean, there’s countless couples.”
He credited the tavern’s neighborhood vibe with bringing so many couples together.
“We host lots of fundraisers and events here for the local community, which, you know, being part of the community for so long, I think that we’re just a known place that hosts events and does things for the area, which brings area people here.”
The Dancing Noodles, a local band, will kick off the evening with a performance starting at 4 p.m. on the outdoor patio. A signature Reilly’s Daughter cocktail from the ’90s — the lemonvox, which is a mixture of lemonade and vodka — will make a comeback at the bar. O’Brien said it should be a fun night of music and drinks.
“I feel like going out and getting back to the old-school ways of things: Coming to a bar, meeting somebody, talking to somebody, really figuring out who that person is with a face-to-face meeting, instead of the internet,” O’Brien said. “I really think that’s the better way, to be honest.”
The reunion will be held in the Ranch Manor Shopping Center on the northwest corner of 111th Street and Pulaski Road.
