Oak Lawn police officials said they’re continuing their search for three males who robbed Reichman Jewelers Friday afternoon.
The thieves shot an employee twice in the chest. The employee was initially listed in critical, but stable condition.
Gerald Vetter, the Chief of Investigations for Oak Lawn Police, said the masked robbers drew guns after entering Reichman Jewelers on 95th Street east of Kilbourn Avenue. They allegedly disarmed a security guard, and then began breaking glass display cases and stealing jewelry.
He said when the employee came out of the back of the store and confronted the robbers, the worker was shot in the chest and one of his arms.
“Three individuals entered the Reichman Jewelry store in the 4400 block of 95th Street,” Vetter said. “They were able to disarm a security officer who was working there. During the course of them stealing jewelry, they wound up shooting one of the employees.”
Vetter said the three male robbers fled in a silver Chrysler 200.
Police are checking with neighboring businesses to see if they have video or photos of the robbers or the getaway vehicle.
Investigators are also looking into whether two recent similar robberies in neighboring communities might be related to this heist, Vetter said.
