CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The Winter Olympics ended more than two weeks ago, but Oak Park speedskater Emery Lehman hasn’t been home yet to show off his bronze medal for the men’s team pursuit.

Emery Lehman went from Beijing straight to Norway to compete in the World Championships where he took third in the 1500 meters. WBBM Newsradio talked to him from the Netherlands, where he’s skating in the World Cup finals.

While the 25-year-old has now competed in three Olympic Winter Games, this is his first time skating in the other two.

"These two meets are actually almost, I'd say, harder to qualify for the Olympics themselves," Lehman told WBBM Newsradio.

He plans to return to Oak Park next month.

"I'm excited to share my medal, share my story and mainly, kind of just, get more people speedskating, I guess, is my goal," he said.

Lehman said COVID-19 concerns kept him from doing many things other than training so he’s looking forward to traveling again in the off season.

While he’s competed in three Olympic games, Lehman had never skated in world all-around championships or the World Cup finals before.
