CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Obama Foundation has distanced itself from plans to combine two South Side golf courses into a professional-level facility near the Obama Presidential Center.
Tiger Woods' design firm had signed on in 2016 to combine the Jackson Park and South Shore courses into one PGA-caliber course.
The golf course overhaul has stalled over the years with fundraising challenges and unenthusiastic backing from local leaders.
South Siders raised concerns about pricing out area golfers and with the project's environmental impacts.
Janette Hoyt of Save Jackson Park spoke with CBS- 2 about it over a year ago.
"Birds nest here, animals live here. We have trees making air for us here, and we have a public golf course that works well for the public that live in this area," Hoyt said.
Foundation CEO Valerie Jarrett told Crain's the foundation is not pursuing the project.
Woods' design firm has not yet commented.
