Off-duty CPD officer reportedly behind wheel of Thursday's fatal pedestrian accident in River North

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - We have more information on the driver involved in a fatal crash in River North Thursday.

The driver behind the wheel was reportedly an off-duty CPD officer.

The crash happened near State and Kinzie at around 12:30 a.m.

Police said the driver was "on her phone" when she lost control of the car and jumped a curb, hitting and killing a 56-year-old woman who was standing on the sidewalk.

The driver received four citations for failing to reduce speed, failing to keep in a lane, negligent driving and driving while using a cell phone.

WBBM has reached out to CPD for comment.
