Cause of the crash is still unknown. The Tinley Park Police Department’s Accident Investigation Team remain on the scene.
This marks the second time in nearly two weeks an off-duty Chicago Police officer was killed in a suburban auto accident. On Nov. 26, 35-year-old officer Edwin Espinoza was driving near 95th and Harlem in Oak Lawn when his car slid off the road and hit a tree. He later died at the Advocate Christ Medical Center.
