(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A 51-year-old off-duty Chicago police officer fired his weapon Thursday afternoon when he saw two suspects, including an armed individual, running toward him in Lincoln Park, officials said.
The officer was driving in an alley in the 2700 block of North Halsted around 3:15 p.m. when he saw two people running toward his vehicle, according to a statement issued by the Chicago Police Department.
One of the suspects was in possession of a handgun, the off-duty officer said. He “exited his vehicle, produced his weapon and fired one shot,” and the pair of individuals fled, police said.
No injuries were reported. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating and asks anyone with information to call (312) 746-3609.
The off-duty officer who fired his gun is on administrative duties for 30 days.
