CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - An off-duty Chicago police officer turned the tables on would-be carjackers on the South Side Thursday night.

Chicago police said three men approached the off-duty officer as she was outside her car on 88th and Constance. At least one of them ordered her at gunpoint to give up her car and her other belongings. She quickly pulled out her own gun and both sides fired shots, more than a dozen in all.

One suspect ran off while two others in a car drove away. Soon after, police said, one of the alleged carjackers showed up at nearby Trinity Hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

The officer was not injured in the exchange of gunfire. COPA is investigating.
