(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias has had to make some adjustments to the much-publicized "Skip the Line" program his office debuted this month.

The ambitious plan was to have nearly drivers' license services at DMVs be “by appointment” only -- making it mostly unnecessary to wait in line.

Seniors complained it was difficult for them to get appointments. And while the DMVs served more than 165,000 customers who had appointments, they could use more slots.

Giannoulias says his office will open two offices where seniors can walk in and get service. One is in Bridgeview and the other in Evanston.

Meantime, his office plans to increase the number of available appointments by 40 percent. That's more than 1,300 more per day.
