
(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A teenage boy killed in a shooting in Highland Park on Sunday morning has been identified, officials said.
The Lake County Coroner's Office identified the 16-year-old boy as Omar Diaz, of Highwood.
Highland Park police said it happened as Diaz was walking on the sidewalk in the 2300 block of Green Bay Road around 11:30 a.m. The suspect came up to Diaz for a brief conversation before he pulled out a gun and fatally shot the teenager.
Witnesses described the offender as a male dressed in all black. Police said he fled on a bike.
Authorities said the gunman is still at large. A police K9 tracked the suspect’s scent but lost it at a nearby roadway.
Highland Park police and the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the shooting.
