(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Beginning Wednesday, travelers will have a much easier time getting around O'Hare International Airport.

The automated, rail-based Airport Transit System (ATS) will resume operating — 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m daily to start — by transporting passengers from Terminals 1,2, 3 and 5 and other areas around O’Hare.

The public may be more familiar with the name “People Mover,” which has been under renovation for the last couple of years.

The updated system features new rail cars and a greater hourly capacity — from 2,600 passengers to 4,800, officials said.

The ATS will be fully operational in 2022. For now, shuttle buses will fill in during the downtime.
