CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Mayor Brandon Johnson's office said more than 24,000 young people were employed through the One Summer Chicago program in 2023.
That's an increase of 4,000 people from 2022.
One Summer Chicago brings together the mayor's office, city departments, community organizations, corporate partners, and local businesses to provide job and internship opportunities for young people between the ages of 14 and 24.
Johnson’s office said the 2023 participants racked up nearly 2.5 million hours of work experience and made close to $34 million in wages.
Of the 24,000 participants, over 1,700 had disabilities.
