After nearly two years of waiting, the satirical news site the Onion plans to launch a new InfoWars website Thursday.
Some people may still think it’s a joke, but Executive Editor Jordan LaFlure tells WBBM their version of the site formerly hosted by conspiracy theorist Alex Jones will be starkly different.
He explains they have initial plans for six episodes with a lot more video content to be led by comedian Tim Heidecker from the Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim.
The takeover comes after the Chicago-based Onion, with the backing of Sandy Hook families, won the bidding for Infowars at a bankruptcy auction in November 2024.
Relatives of the victims secured more than $1b in defamation judgments against Jones for calling the 2018 mass shooting a hoax.
He has filed several appeals.
LaFlure says they are sending the families a check for $100,000 from sales so far of merchandise with the new rainbow-colored InfoWars logo.
