(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A Chicago organization is giving women from underserved communities access to the business attire that will help launch their careers.
But Dress for Success Chicago is so much more, says longtime board member Keli Frazier-Cox.
"They do so much for women who are looking for work, who are either unemployed or underemployed," she said. "They're doing interview help, coaching and resume help, as well as financial inclusion and education. They also do 'suiting.' Once women have gone through several coaching activities, they're then given clothes to either interview or start a new job."
Many of the women the organization works with are from underrepresented communities. The positive results can be hard to quantify.
"Dress for Success has such an impact in our community. It is helping women to gain financial independence, to also improve and claim confidence, and as women are able to support themselves and their families, it usually extends into their communities," Frazier-Cox said.
Dress for Success helps hundreds of women each and every year, but there's always more that can be done.
"We realize that more and more women need these services, those who are struggling with not just employment but also hunger and housing. We know that getting them reliable, stable jobs is a way to fix a lot of those other social ills."
