CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — If you look on Google Maps, there’s a spot marked “Outdoor Dining Area” near Logan Square.

Really, it’s an installation by a resident who has combined two facets of his life: art and the restaurant business.

“I just like absurd things. I enjoy things that you stumble upon,” says the creator, who goes by the moniker Savage Omega.

He assembled an outdoor dining area on Logan Boulevard near Francisco.

“Basically, I had to move some stuff because of work being done in my apartment,” he told WBBM Newsradio’s Steve Miller on Friday.

The stuff he couldn’t store  ended up as street furniture.

That was two months ago.

“Nobody’s messed with it — really,” Savage Omega said. “I didn’t think it would las a week. Actually, at some point somebody moved it. But they moved the whole thing.

He added: “Actually, I forgot about this. At some point somebody moved the entire thing, carefully, about 20 to 50 feet to the east.”

Savage didn’t really intend for it to have any deep meaning. He says now that people are paying attention, he hopes they’ll think about the hardships COVID-19 has brought to people who work in restaurants.

More of his work can be seen on his Instagram page @Savage.chicago.yeah.
