Things to do in Chicago this weekend

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – With warm weather in full spring swing, the Chicago area offers a variety of events. WBBM Newsradio’s Rachel Pierson reports.

--Take your taste buds on a trip around the world at WhiskyFest. Hosted at Hyatt Regency Chicago, Friday’s event is the leading whisky festival in North America. Sample spirits from Tennessee, Japan, Canada and Scotland while learning about the industry firsthand from the experts.

--Waddle, dance and swing your way through the Roaring Twenties with some of Shedd Aquarium’s finest feathered friends. The Great Penguin Party offers hors d'oeuvres and an open bar while exploring the aquarium’s exhibits. And yes, the penguins will be wearing tuxedos.

--Shop original art and handmade crafts from 70 artists at the Lincoln Roscoe Spring Art and Craft Fair. The North Side festival returns to Lincoln Avenue this weekend featuring live music, painting classes, selfie stations and festival food.

--Celebrate the sunny days ahead at the Rosemont Spring Fun Fest. The free family event is hosted at Parkway Bank Park Saturday afternoon and includes a fun-filled day of outdoor activities including balloon sculpting, bounce houses and a petting zoo.

--Kick off the summer festival season in the Historic District of Lincoln Park.
Chicago Mayfest celebrates its 26th season by showcasing some of Chicago’s most acclaimed musicians. You’ll also find tasty summertime food and all the libations needed to lighten up your weekend.

--It doesn't just smell like spring; it tastes like it too! Head to west suburban Lisle Saturday afternoon for the Morton Arboretum's Spring Wine Tasting. Sample more than 80 wines and receive a souvenir tasting glass to take home.

--Celebrate mom and the spring season at The Growing Place. Paint and Plant a Pot for Mom lets kids create an original work of art and plant a flower in a personalized pot. The annual Mother’s Day activity will be held in Naperville on Saturday and at the Aurora location on Sunday.
