MCHENRY, Ill. (WBBM Newsradio) – Baseball fans will have a chance to celebrate Independence Day with a movie, a Cubs game and fireworks at the McHenry Outdoor Theater as part of a nationwide event hosted by Major League Baseball.
The McHenry drive-in is one of four theaters across the country selected to host MLB's Summer Drive-In celebration, commemorating the nation's 250th birthday.
The July 4 event begins with a screening of the classic baseball film The Sandlot, followed by a live broadcast of the Chicago Cubs' game against the St. Louis Cardinals on the theater's big screen. Organizers also have planned baseball-themed activities, lawn games, specialty concessions, fan experiences and a fireworks display to close out the evening.
The schedule includes gates opening at 4 p.m., The Sandlot at 5 p.m., the Cubs-Cardinals game at 7 p.m. and fireworks beginning around 9:15 p.m.
Tickets for the event have sold out, according to the Eventbrite page, but the McHenry Outdoor Theater is giving away a limited number of carload passes through a contest on its website.
