Overnight fire destroys SW suburban home; Firefighter hospitalized

ORLAND PARK (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A fire in southwest suburban Orland Park that heavily damaged three homes Tuesday morning remains under investigation.

Firefighters were dispatched to the area of 147th and Holly Court around 3:30am.

“Upon our arrival, we were met with a fully involved home, with exposures to both the north and south structure as well…I think we had an auto or two on fire as well,” said Orland Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Nick Cinquepalmi.

Two people inside the home made it out safely on their own. One person was injured. They were treated and released on the scene, the deputy chief said.

One firefighter was injured fighting the fire which also damaged neighboring homes.

“It was not life-threatening, but it was significant, and he needed treatment at Silver Cross [Hospital],” Cinquepalmi said.

Three pets believed to be in the home at the time of the fire are unaccounted for, the fire department said.
