(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Highland Park parade shooting suspect Robert Crimo III will go on trial a year from now.

Crimo’s trial on murder and attempted murder charges originally was set to begin next week after the 23-year-old pushed for a speedy trial with himself as counsel.

He now has public defenders who have asked for a February 2025 trial date. Judge Victoria Rossetti agreed to the request, even though prosecutors said they'd be read this fall.

Rossetti scheduled a hearing for April 24 to discuss attorneys' progress preparing for trial.

Crimo is accused of firing a rifle from a downtown Highland Park rooftop during the 2022 Fourth of July parade and killing seven people and injuring several more.
