(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A suburban police department has launched an investigation after a trick-or-treater received a THC-infused lollipop on Halloween.

The child was given a Delta-8-brand lollipop containing THC, the psychoactive cannabinoid derived from hemp and cannabis plants, the Carol Stream Police Department said in a social media posting Thursday.

The item was clearly labeled “Adults Only,” police said, and the child’s parent was able to divert the lollipop before it was ingested.

“This appears to be an isolated incident; however, we would like to emphasize the importance of diligently checking all of your children's Halloween candy before consumption,” officials said.

Anyone who finds similarly inappropriate items in their child’s Halloween-candy yield should contact police, authorities said.

No further information was available. An investigation is ongoing.
