CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A legal battle is brewing between the Chicago Park District and the Chicago Fire soccer team over sponsorship naming rights.
When is a field not a field? The Chicago Fire plays its home games at Soldier Field, but now it has sold the sponsorship rights to the actual playing surface-the field to Wintrust Financial.
According to Crain’s Business, the Park District argues calling the field, The Wintrust Pitch, violates the operating agreement that both the Fire and Chicago Bears signed on to.
The Fire contends that giving a name to the field at Soldier Field is not a re-naming of the stadium.
