Despite desperate community plea, park district to close decades-old Palatine Stables

PALATINE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Palatine Park District Board voted Monday night to close an equestrian center that has been in the community since the 1950s.

Repairs required for the barn at the Palatine Stables, according to the park district, would cost $2.6 million.

Monday night’s vote affirmed an earlier vote to close the stables because of  "structural integrity and public safety" issues.

Kids were in tears.

"This is what the Village of Palatine is going to be known for,” one resident said. “They're going to see these children crying on the news tonight. Great legacy.”

“Shame on you. Thanks for listening,” one woman said.

CBS-2 reported the stables are expected to close at the end of November.
