(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Suburban Park Ridge has announced plans to host its first-ever Pride parade this summer.

“It’s really nice to see sort of the way that this community is progressing and growing,” said Carol Hill, the senior minister at the Park Ridge Community Church.

The church is one of several sponsors of the upcoming Park Ridge Pride Festival, which will take place on June 20 and include music, food, and other celebrations.

“We’re excited to see a number of both faith-based and community groups, who are interested in having a day to celebrate pride in Park Ridge,” Hill said.

Park Ridge Mayor Marty Maloney is scheduled to issue a Pride Proclamation for the city, and former Illinois State Rep. Greg Harris will also speak at the event.

“It’s helpful to know that we’ve got gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people all over — not just in the city,” she said. “For residents of Park Ridge who are themselves LGBTQ … to see that this is a community that loves them, supports them, and celebrates them for who they are — really matters.”
