
METTAWA (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A passenger in a car that was speeding away from a retail theft in Lake County was critically injured Monday afternoon when he was impaled on a fence post.
The Sheriff’s Office said the driver of a Kia Optima was speeding on Route 60 and ran a red light at St Mary’s Road in Mettawa.
The car was hit by an SUV which hit another SUV. The Kia left the road and hit a wooden fence. The front seat passenger was impaled on a fence post.
His injuries are life-threatening. Vernon Hills Police Officers used a defibrillator on the man before paramedics arrived.
In all, six people were involved. Only the one had life-threatening injuries.
