Patrons claim illness after dining at West Loop Italian steakhouse: Report

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Gibsons Italia, a well-known Italian steakhouse in the West Loop, has taken precautionary measures after several patrons reported becoming sick once leaving the restaurant.

The restaurant goers claimed they fell ill after dining at a private event held at the eatery last Saturday night, Dec. 2. According to CBS-2, Gibsons Italia received several phone calls on Monday alleging illness.

Gibsons Italia told CBS-2 that they’ve begun an internal investigation and have discarded any food product that was used Saturday night. They also said that they did a deep cleaning of the entire facility, including doubly sanitizing all surfaces and replacing all HVAC filters.

“Our sincerest apologies to our guests for their experience, and we hope and pray that they recover quickly,” Gibsons Italia said in a statement.

The Chicago Department of Public Health is also investigating.
