Pelicans fly through Chicago as they migrate to Gulf Coast

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Illinois is proving to be a popular highway for pelicans.

American white pelicans are making their way through the state on their annual winter migration to the Gulf Coast.

Pelicans are flying through the Chicago area on their journey south.

One expert said migration patterns could be behind the passel of pelicans.  They said the birds that traditionally breed in Canada are doing so in northern Wisconsin, which means more are crossing Illinois as they the head south.
