CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - One person is dead, another was seriously hurt after a crash on the Stevenson Expressway Sunday night.

A car was pulled over in the outbound lanes of I-55 near Cicero Avenue, just after 6:30 p.m.

Three people were trying to change a tire on the right shoulder. That’s when Illinois State Police said a pickup truck drove into the shoulder, hitting the car and two pedestrians.

One person was taken to a nearby hospital but later died. The other suffered non-life threatening injuries.

All outbound lanes of the Stevenson were shut down for several hours but have since reopened.
