CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Police continue to investigate a shooting outside a South Side high school that left a female student injured.

The incident occurred outside Perspectives Leadership Academy, located at 85th and Layette, in the Chatham neighborhood. A school spokesperson confirmed that a student was wounded near the school and that the academy was placed on a soft lockdown.

Police said a 15-year-old girl was walking when a black sedan pulled up and two male suspects got of the car and began shooting. The girl suffered gunshot wound to her left thigh. Police said he was transported to Comer Children's Hospital in fair condition.

No one else was hurt.

The suspects fled the scene in the same black vehicle.

No one is custody. CPD Area Two detectives have been assigned to the case.

“This morning, a Perspectives student was shot outside of our school. Our thoughts are with the students, their families, and all those impacted by this tragic incident. Out of an abundance of caution, the school was placed on a soft lockdown, and the Chicago Police Department responded immediately.

This remains an active investigation, and we are fully cooperating with law enforcement. We are also working closely with the Chicago Public Schools Office of Safety and Security to ensure safe passage home for all students.

The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority. Counseling and support services are available for those in need.
