CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A family business on the Northwest Side is saying goodbye after more than a century.
Jerry Petersen's family has been operating the Peterson Glass Company on the 5500 block of North Milwaukee since 1903, installing storefronts and commercial glass in Chicago and the suburbs. Now though, it’s time to retire.
“There’s been many, many generations…that we’ve been able to take care of,” Petersen said. “I know, just myself, working with contractors for over 40 years, so we have a lot of people who have been continually coming back and their generations also still using us.”
Life is opening new windows for Petersen.
“It’s a very difficult time just because this is who I am, but it’s also an exciting time because I can start traveling that I have not been able to do before,” said Petersen.
He plans on visiting his grandchildren in Iowa more frequently and will soon be going on an Alaskan cruise.
