CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago Police have put out an alert to businesses about a pick-pocket ring operating downtown that anyone who patronizes restaurants or bars should be aware of.
Police listed two dozen locations where thefts have occurred between June 2 and the Fourth of July. They’ve happened mostly in and around the Loop, at bars, restaurants, hotel lobbies.
They also released a video showing three individuals, two men and a woman. They were well-dressed, men in sport coats.
Clearly, they’re good at what they do.
Sometimes, police said, it's just one person. In most incidents, they’re not sure whether it was one or more.
The victims never saw them.
In each case, they’re entering crowded establishments and leaving with wallets or other valuables. They may reach into a purse hanging on the back of a chair, a backpack or bags left on the floor.
Police said they then immediately went shopping with the victims’ credit or debit cards.
