PARK RIDGE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A landmark movie theater in the northwest suburbs will have a new life as a concert venue and performance space.

The non-profit Copernicus Foundation, which runs the Copernicus Center on Lawrence Avenue in Jefferson Park will take over operations at the Pickwick Theater in Park Ridge.

The 1928 Vintage movie theater on Prospect Avenue will become Copernicus at the Pickwick.  It will be home to a mix of concerts, plays, and classic films.

Dino Vlahakis, who owns the Pickwick building, will retain an equity stake in the new operation.

He said people don't have to travel to downtown for dinner and a show.

"You find great restaurants in the suburbs. In fact, the Park Ridge area is loaded with fantastic restaurants now and that didn't exist ten years ago."

The four smaller theaters in the back of the Pickwick building will continue to show new movies.

The new partnership will begin in September.
