Pitchfork Music Festival will go on in Chicago despite layoffs at namesake online publication

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Fans will be able to gather for the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago this year despite layoffs and restructuring at its namesake website.

Calling it an evolving of the structure, Anna Wintor announced Conde Naste is folding Pitchfork into GQ and that employees are leaving the music journalism site.

“This decision was made after a careful evaluation of Pitchfork’s performance and what we believe is the best path forward for the brand so that our coverage of music can continue to thrive within the company,” she wrote in a memo to staff.

In response to the layoffs, President of the New York News Guild Susan DeCarava said in a statement: “The reporters, editors, producers, researchers and all the people who make award-winning music journalism for Pitchfork, deserve better than to be treated like disposable parts."

There were no details about how many people are being laid off, but planners for Pitchfork’s music fest say they are moving ahead with this year’s event.

Dates and headliners have not yet been announced, but tickets are slated to go on sale in March for a fest in Mexico City planned for March 6-9. Pitchfork has been a summer staple for Chicago since 2005.
