(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A former Plainfield Township supervisor has pleaded guilty to wire fraud as part of a plea agreement.
Federal prosecutors said Anthony Fremarek stole $1.3 million from an IT consulting firm in Schaumburg where he served as CFO and manager. In the plea agreement, the 51-year-old admitted to using the company's bank account to pay his personal credit cards from 2013 to 2019.
The U.S. Attorney's Office said Fremarek hid the theft by claiming they were legitimate company expenses. He resigned his post as township supervisor three months after the indictment was announced in January of this year. He has agreed to make full restitution to the company.
US District Judge Robert Gettleman set a sentencing date for Feb. 23.
Prosecutors estimate Fremarek could face up to more than four years in prison while his defense attorney believes it should be as low as two years and three months.
