SPRINGFIELD, Ill (KMOX) - Within the next 10 years you could be able to jump on a high-speed train to get from St. Louis to Chicago in just over two hours.

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker signed a bill to created the High-Speed Railway Commission that would study and develop a plan. House Bill 399 is now in effect with the goal of modernizing and integrating all Illinois train systems into one high-speed network.

The line would also run through Springfield, Decatur, Rockford, Molina and Peoria.

Advocates of the plan believe it will create thousands of jobs and lower carbon emissions in the state. Trains.com reports the existing Amtrak and Metra services will still be used as part of a feeder network in the system that will also use bus services.

Some lawmakers says the project will be partially funded by the federal infrastructure bill working its way through Congress now, according to NewsChannel20.com.
