Plane departing O'Hare catches fire, FAA says

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A plane set to depart O’Hare International Airport this afternoon was forced to evacuate after one of its engines caught on fire.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, United Flight 2091 stopped takeoff at around 2 p.m. when a fire was detected in one of the engines. The flight was bound for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

The plane was towed to the gate and passengers were able to safely exit the plane.

Arrivals into O’Hare were temporarily put on hold, the FAA said.

ABC-7 reported 148 passengers were on board at the time of the fire.
