Police investigating shooting death of 8-year-old boy in East Chicago

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- An investigation is underway in East Chicago following the shooting death of a 8-year-old boy.

The little boy was brought to St. Catherine’s Hospital in a family vehicle around 1:30 a.m. with an apparent gunshot wound to the head and, he later died from his injuries.

The Region News reported that witnesses told police numerous rifle casings fell out the vehicle at the hospital and the family was arguing.

Police said several children and adults were in the van. The vehicle was towed from the hospital and police found guns and dozens of casings inside.

The Region News also reported that police determined there had been a shootout between two vehicles, and officers are working to find out more.
