(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Illinois authorities lifted the lockdown at the state Capitol building about one hour after it was put in place on Tuesday afternoon.

WBBM's Dave Dahl, who was inside the Capitol at the time of the lockdown, said Illinois officials received a threat of a person possibly with a gun in the building.

In response to the threat, Illinois Secretary of State Police conducted a sweep of the building with the help of K-9 units. Nothing was found.

Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias posted to social media that the lockdown was put in place "out of an abundance of caution."

Lt. Gov. Julianna Stratton expressed her gratitude to the first responders on the scene.

No details were shared about the origin of the threat.
