CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A 7-month-old boy was found safe after he was reported missing from a vehicle that was stolen Monday in Marquette Park, but was later found to have never been in the vehicle, according to Chicago police.

Jaylen Mojica was reported to be inside a gray SUV that a 30-year-old woman left running when she went into a convenience store at about 12:45 p.m. in the 2700 block of West 71st Street, Chicago police said. While she was inside, someone jumped into the SUV and drove north on California Avenue.

The vehicle was found at about 2:40 p.m. in the 1400 block of S. Keeler Avenue, but the baby was not inside, police said.

At about 8:43 p.m., police said the baby had been located safely, but was in the care of a babysitter and was never in the SUV.

Area One detectives are investigating.
