A central Illinois mayor who attended the Jan. 6 Trump rally in Washington that preceded the storming of the Capitol building has apologized for accusing the media of lying about the violence in a video he posted online afterward.
Thomasboro Mayor Tyler Evans, who has faced calls to resign since he posted the video, issued a statement late this week apologizing for his comments and condemning the violence.
He said he made it as far as the Capitol steps and saw very little evidence of violence, and that he posted his video before he had a "full understanding of the actions of rioters who stormed the Capitol.”
Meantime, in Wisconsin, a local Republican Party organizer has stepped down for a controversial online post advised his members to “prepare for war.”
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Friday that members of the St. Croix County Republican Party Executive Committee asked for John Kraft's resignation.
His post, made before the Capitol riot, garnered attention after the violence in Washington, D.C. Kraft had refused calls from the state Republican Party to remove the post. The county website was down on Friday.
